The development project of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport of the Czech Republic for 2010 and 2011, "Development of Psychological Counselling at Czech Universities", is supported from the grant programme of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport of the Czech Republic. As for its aims, it draws upon the development programmes implemented in 2009 and 2008.
The major aim of the project for 2010 and 2011 is the development of psychological counselling at universities, i.e. support and extension of the range of counselling services provided at the universities involved in the project. The project responds to the increasing needs of university students to deal with urgent mental and social-psychological problems. It also responds to the increasing demands that the students have to face regarding their competencies and the ability to assert themselves on the labour market which raises a number of questions "Will I be able to succeed in competition? Will I manage to harmonise my private life and my study duties?....."
The project is divided into several thematic areas which, as a whole, should result, apart from the development of psychological counselling itself, in the qualification development of university psychological counsellors and the support of both academic and non-academic staff addressing the counsellors.
These are specifically the following:
- Seminars on individual and group counselling, identification of the most common problems that the counsellors have to deal with.
- Education and supervision of university counsellors.
- Verification of new counselling methods (coaching).
- Psychodiagnostics as the means of self-knowledge and personal qualification and professional development.
- Promotion of university psychological counselling and project outputs.
Seven Bohemian and Moravian universities participate in the project (see section Project Partners), the coordinator being the University of Economics in Prague.
